Quick Study

Tequila, 9 x 9, Watercolor
I love doing studies. It's just for "practice" so there's no pressure. I try to convince myself that every piece I create is a practice piece. In that way, for each painting I endeavor to loosen up and take more risks. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. That's why it's so great to actually do some studies, that really are for practice. If you like the result, great. If you didn't, you had a good experience and valuable lesson. Win win all around. Sometimes, as in this study, I start right in painting, with no under-drawing.

Portrait Challenge

Happy New Year!
Here's my entry for Karin Jurick's Different Strokes from Different Folks Blog, where the challenge was to create a painting from a photo of another participant. This portrait is watercolor, 16 x 16.
